Review: Flash – Self Titled

Flash – Flash (Capitol SMAS 11040)

About a year ago, when Yes chucked Tony Kaye out of the line-up for Rick Wakeman, Flash was formed.

A good album, Tony Kaye and Co. makes no effort in trying to disguise their instrumentation similar to the aforementioned group. Flash, while clearly in a different league than Yes, makes a good showing in their debut album. And when one considers the LP for what it is, a debut album, not another Yes, then Flash is palatable.

Give them a year or so. They have the same sense of magnificence in machinery that was evident in the early stages of Yes. Which may be unoriginal or may be fantastic, depending of course, on how much of a Yes fan you are.
