Review: Melanie – Gather Me

Melanie – Gather Me

To many this will be Melanie’s first album. In her past efforts, she has been seen content to croon short, useless, and sometimes…most times…worthless tunes. “Alexander Beatle” for the Candles in the Rain would have to be the best example.

Gather Me serves as a turning point in her career. Now on a new label, she has matured considerably. The cuts are rich with electric piano, woodwinds, congas and harmonica. The beat remains bouncy but for once fails to cross the line into sickeningly commercial ditties. A good album.
