WOW!! More sneak previews screenings!!! I really hope that this is great news for C.C. as I really, really, really, really want for him to have a box office hit on his hands (especially for a film this strong) as that would make it easier for him to get the next film made.
But I am curious…do the box office numbers for the sneak previews get rolled in with the full box office take for the film? if so, how well did that first sneak suceed? Then, I am curious if the new round of sneak showings illustrate 20th Century Fox’s confidance with the film, in addition to getting the word out early since “Zoo” will be in an extremely crowded field of films to compete with. I would hate to go up again TWO Spielberg films and “Dragon Tattoo” and since I am a preschool teacher, I have been strongly pushing “Zoo” to those families with older children.
At any rate, I hope tonight’s showing go well!
I believe the grosses from sneak preview screenings usually get folded into the movie the sneak preview took off the screen for its showing because it’s not an official release. For instance at my local theater it looked like “Tower Heist” lost its 7pm showing for the 7pm WBAZ showing so the grosses for that showing probably got folded into “Tower Heist,” even though it was released by Universal and not Fox. Usually sneak previews knock off showings of a film from the same studio to keep grosses in-house, but because Fox wanted to get the word out on WBAZ and they didn’t have a film in wide release to displace they probably settled with giving the grosses to the films of other studios.
Here’s a story from Deadline about the success of the sneak previews over Thanksgiving:
