L to R: Tom Friend, Tom Cruise, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Mel Kiper, Jr.

There’s a great story about how sports writer Tom Friend landed a cameo on Jerry Maguire. I thought it was pretty funny and insightful look back by Friend. Check it out over at ESPN.com’s Front Row, I think you’ll like it too.

  • And you had to know Cameron loved sticking a fellow magazine scribe into the pic. Great story.

How did Nancy land that cameo as “Beautiful Girl in Car” in Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982), directed by Amy Heckerling ? Was that how you to first met?

Carmen Policy was cut out of “Jerry Maguire”?! As a 49ers fan since I was a little kid I would have loved seeing his cameo. But at least I got to see Barry Switzer frowning on the sidelines at the end of the film–a pleasure for any 49ers fan at that time, after Deion Sanders was lured from the 49ers to the Cowboys. One of the joys of seeing “Jerry Maguire” over and over is seeing the Cowboys defeated at the end.
