Hip-O Select.com/Motown will release a brand new edition of Marvin Gaye’s Trouble Man to celebrate its 40th anniversary on November 19th. The new 2 CD exapanded edition will feature not only the remastered original soundtrack album, but also include 29 unreleased performances including alternate takes, rare vocals and the full score for the film.

The set will also include a 28 page booklet with essays by Cameron, Dr. Andrew Flory, George Tillman, Jr., Lenny Kravitz, Joni Mitchell and Christian McBride. It’s a limited edition of only 5,000 copies and you can order yours directly from the Hip-O website now.

Boombox Cameos

John Cusack and Cameron attended a couple of stops on Peter Gabriel’s So 25th Anniversary concert this past week and they each had the unique privilege to present Mr. Gabriel with a boombox just as “In Your Eyes” was starting (John at the Hollywood Bowl and Cameron at Santa Barbara). Pretty cool, huh? Pictures above are courtesy of Peter’s bassist Tony Levin. Flying Burrito Brothers – Last Of The Red Hot Burritos (A&M SP 4343)

Besides being packaged in the best jacket to be seen around, this live LP serves as the last glimpse of the sadly, unheralded Flying Burrito Brothers. Hence, Last Of The Red Hot Burritos. To be taken literally.

The Burritos seemed to be, in their existence, somewhat of a halfway band collecting various refugees from California folk-rock bands.

In this LP, Chris Hillman and Al Perkins, now with Steve Stills’ Manassas band, combine with fiddler Byron Berline and banjoman Kenny Wertz to unleash a tremendously versatile array of material.

From the earthy bluegrass of “Orange Blossom Special” to the rockin’ standard “Six Days on the Road,” the album remains as one of the best efforts of this year despite the tinny recording job, the amazing shortness, and the suspiciously over-enthusiastic audience.

There’s going to be an Almost Famous Block Party this Friday as part of the San Diego Film Festival. The special guest will be Pennie Trumbull (in her first public appearance). Singles Locations: 20 Years Later – Part 2

We are back with Part 2 of our look at Singles locations. Amazing how some things have changed, while others have stayed the same, huh?

 

  • Linda (Kyra Sedgewick) gets her car fixed at University Auto Repair (the bench was added). The name of the business has changed over the years, but it’s still there at 5330 Roosevelt Way NE.

 

  • The Soundgarden concert footage was shot at the Central Tavern. The Singles wrap party was held at the Off Ramp Cafe (now the El Corazon) and Mookie Blaylock (later renamed Pearl Jam) played their first show here too.

 

  • Steve (Campbell Scott) and Linda had “water” at the Virginia Inn at 1937 1st Avenue. The location looks nearly identical to what is captured on film over 20 years ago.

 

  • The Pioneer Square Newsstand was built for Singles on the side of the J&M Cafe at 201 1st Avenue South in Pioneer Square. The J & M is still going strong.
Additional locations:

  • The Mother Love Bone graffiti seen in the alley at The Vogue (in Belltown) is now history. The Vogue moved to Capitol Hill and has since closed.
  • The Alice in Chains concert footage was shot at Pier 29 in a warehouse that the production turned into a club.
  • Jimi Hendrix’s grave is located at the Greenwood Memorial Park in Renton.
  • Other iconic locations featured include the Fremont Bridge, the Seattle Center roller coaster (now gone), Gas Works park, Occidental Park and Pioneer Square (where the theatrical poster was shot).
