Rita Coolidge Bio

500_FRONT.jpg

Here’s a biography that Cameron Crowe did for ’70s superstar Rita Coolidge back in 1978. Rita continues to record and just recently, she performed along side Robbie Robertson at the Opening Ceremonies of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. By the way, guess who did the logo on Rita’s Official site? Her daughter Casey (mentioned in Crowe’s bio), who was four years old when Cameron did this biography! You can check out Rita’s official site here.

How’s this for a blast from the past? I’ve just finishing transcribing a hilarious interview that Cameron did with then twenty-two year old John Travolta for Playgirl magazine (circa 1977)! I won’t try to explain, so I recommend that you just check it out.

Twin Towers Talk

twintowers

Most everyone knows that the Twin Towers are featured in Vanilla Sky. This is becoming a common question for Cameron as he does his whirlwind press tour. Here’s a Crowe quote about why they stayed: “The idea of wiping them away by the computer – I couldn’t do it”, “They’ve already been taken away once; they’ll stay in the movie. Hopefully, the audience will understand it’s a tribute.”

Crowe on Larson

nicolettelarson

Here’s an interview with singer Nicolette Larson that Cameron did for the December 14, 1978 issue of Rolling Stone. I’m sure many of you know who Larson is, but she was an accomplished singer, who among other successes, had a Top 10 hit in 1978 with a cover of Neil Young’s “Lotta Love.” Sadly, Nicolette passed away in December of 1997 due to complications from a cerebral edema. She is survived by her husband, Russell Kunkel, and their 8-year-old daughter, Elsie May. If you would like to learn more, there’s an official website honoring her life and music.

cruisevanityfair2000

As promised, I’ve added Cameron’s extensive interview with Tom Cruise from the June 2000 Vanity Fair. They discuss Cruise’s entire career and there’s even a description of Cruise reading the Lester Bangs part, so Cameron could hear it aloud. It’s a great interview, so check it out.
